Fishing at West Hawk, Falcon, and Nutimik Lake

Nutimik Lake is situated at the northern end of Whiteshell Provincial Park. It’s a relatively quiet lake, but the fishing is still great. In Nutimik Lake, the most common species are Lake Sturgeon, Smallmouth Bass and Northern Pike. It’s also worth mentioning that living near Nutimik Lake means access to the dock, nearby hiking trails and a quiet atmosphere. Experts recommend fishing Nutimik Lake early in the morning, so don’t forget to set your alarm!

If you’re looking for more of a challenge, West Hawk Lake is the deepest lake in Manitoba. This lake was formed by a meteor and is now home to Lake Trout, Smallmouth Bass and the occasional Sauger. West Hawk Lake is a little busier than Nutimik, but there are some great swimming spots, and it’s close to town if you need supplies. The best times to fish West Hawk Lake are early spring and fall.

Last but not least, Falcon Lake is by far the busiest of the three lakes, for good reason. Here, you’ll find great structure for fishing plus amenities that make it easy to bring along the family. Opposite the Trans Canada Highway, you’ll notice a boat launch that makes it easy to get onto the water. If you’re into shore fishing, the most popular spot is the causeway/picnic grounds on the south shore. Falcon Lake has many species of fish, but the most common catches are Walleye, Northern Pike, and Smallmouth Bass.
